The exhibition presents 200 contemporary jewels that highlight the refinement of Italian fashion, from 1950 to the present day. The costume jewelry, distinguished for its high aesthetics, was designed by Italian designers and worn by great “divas”.
Italian fashion and jewelry hold an important place in the cultural identity of the neighboring country, not only as a product of fashion, but as a cultural and commercial product that composes and reflects the roots of modern Italian culture.
Italy, since the Renaissance, has been famous for jewelry design and artistry. Today, it is a pioneer in modern production in Europe, presenting a remarkable development in the field of High Technology and Fine Jewelry with the signature of important jewelry maisons and designers, as well as studio Jewelry, setting a global example. The strengthening of Higher Education feeds the chain of the jewelry industry, both at the academic and manufacturing levels, significantly supporting the absorption rates in the labor market. Thus, designers and artists find fertile ground for the development of workshops, production units, but also new design approaches, making Italy one of the most important jewelry production centers.
Costume jewelry (Fashion Jewelry), also known in Europe and Greece as “faux bijoux”, refers, as a term, to jewelry made of non-precious materials and following new fashion trends. Most of the jewels in the exhibition belong to this category, inviting the visitor to experience the design skills of artists who feed the Creative Department of international jewelry houses, such as Gucci, Sharra Pagano, Bozart per Tita Rossi, Enrico Coveri and others.
DIVA! is a traveling exhibition that, since 2021, has traveled to more than 9 countries, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy and with the aim of promoting contemporary jewelry. This year, “DIVA! Italian Glamor in Fashion Jewellery” makes a stop in Greece and the Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum, one of the few museums of its kind in the world, finding the most appropriate place for the epitome of Italian jewelry, in the museum’s temporary exhibition space.
The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy and the assistance of the Italian Embassy in Greece.
